This was so great! It has been a real labor of love for me personally to shop more intentionally over the years and slowly drift over into buying more vintage and secondhand while trying to kick my Zara habit. Iām eager to learn more about the various qualities of pieces coming up in your new column š
Thank you so much Joann! And thank you for sharing your experience (I'm a fellow old Zara addict who still pales thinking of the amount she spent there in her twenties!). I'm really excited to share the new column with you and I hope you will find value in it. Xx
What a great idea! I'd love to see you unpack a similar comparison with basics like linen pants or cotton tee shirts - it's one of those categories where sometimes quality seems to make all the difference, but it can be hard (when shopping online at least) to tell what is quality vs marked up. Thanks!
Hi Kelly - this is a great idea and it's going straight onto the whiteboard. So many people always ask me to review and compare simple white t-shirts and I never got around to it. The new column will be the perfect home for it.
Last summer, I bought linen shorts and I remember thinking this was the type of piece I could probably 'save on' by buying from the high street even though I try to buy from fast fashion as little as possible or not all. I ended up buying a pair from Arket and I wore it almost every day last Summer. So far so good but I'm very curious to know how it will fare after a few seasons and if there were telltale signs (or if it indeed is the type of things that can be bought for cheaper?). I will definitely be covering this.
Thank you Katherine! I hope it will live up to your expectations. If you do end up doing it too please send me a link - I'd love to hear your insights. I think people really crave insights from real consumers and peers reviews these days! Have an amazing day! Xx
This is a well thought out and well written piece. We, as consumers, need to back up our beliefs with where we do and donāt spend our money. Since subscribing to this Substack (and a few others focusing on fewer/better) I have drastically changed my buying behaviors and feel better for it. Excited for your new feature piece!
Hi Francine - Thank you so much for your lovely comments. From what I gather a lot of my subscribers - like yourself - are very thoughtful consumers (something I extremely grateful for!). The people who most need to read it - never will š. I'm a work in progress myself - over the last 4 years the way I consume has changed dramatically and whilst it's far from perfect in some regards, I feel a lot more at peace with how I consume fashion. I'm happy that we're on this journey together! Xx
+1 for a white tee comparison. Also would be remiss if i didn't mention how special it is that you'll be doing these reviews without affiliate links. Happy to support your work!
Thank you so much Rachel! Ever the most supportive peer ā¤ļø. You gave me food for thought once again with your podcast episode last week - I'm now impatiently waiting for each new episode! Xx
Love this article, and the idea of the comparison column. I stumbled upon Tkees last year and ended up with the perfect (IMO, of course) pair of simple black leather flip flops. Just broke them out for the season and theyāre still as lovely as when I first bought them. Hoping for many years of wear.
Hi Emelia! Thank you so much for sharing this anecdote. I myself only discovered Tkees a few summers ago. I'm yet to properly inspect them but at first glance the value does seem indeed unbeatable. I also love that they have such a wide range of colors. It's great for customers to have options to build color themes in their wardrobe that aren't standard neutrals if they don't want to. I will make note that you love them - it's super useful to have crowfunded reviews as I think that's what other consumers value the most these days! Xx
This was an excellent piece and I am looking forward to the new comparison articles. Thank you for breaking things down thoughtfully and interestingly.
Thank you so much Isabel for writing such a king comment. I'm excited to share the new column with you and I hope it'll live to your expectations ā¤ļøXx
