A classic case of Do As I Say Not As I Do.
Last weekend, I flew to Portugal for one of my best friends’ bachelorette party. On the tube on my way to the airport, I texted the group chat, ‘I feel like I packed for Vegas in August and I’m going to regret it’. That I did. The warmest it got that weekend was only 18°C (64°F). We were by the sea, the temperatures dropped at night, and I hadn’t packed a single pair of closed shoes. I spent the weekend borrowing layers from the more sensible bridesmaids. There’s wishful packing, and there’s realistic packing. London goes straight from a long Winter into a short Summer and I never got around to doing my Seven Outfits Of The Season for Spring. Now, traveling to milder destinations in May and June, I feel unprepared. I have become reliant on this method to dress well and stress-free. [While we’re on the subject, if you’re based in Europe and have to plan a chic and fun bachelorette trip, the Caparica coast is it. Regardless of whether your group likes to go hard or mellow. DM me on IG if you want addresses].
This week’s newsletter is an End Of Spring Weekend Getaway edition of the 12-Piece Capsule column. So that you might make better decisions than I did. I wanted the five capsules to capture five distinctly different aesthetics. The destinations are just there for a little fun and wanderlust, but it will provide just as much inspiration to those staying in the city. A weekend trip in Spring should include a good mix of warmer layers, full-length bottoms, and closed-toe shoes. Overpacking is another weakness of mine; each capsule below includes three tops (including long sleeves), two bottoms, a dress, a jacket, two pairs of shoes, a bag, and two accessories. That’s enough clothes to put together at least seven different outfits and more than you’ll ever need in one weekend.
There are sale items included in this week’s edit since, as you’ve gathered by now, this week fashion went on sale (in the US anyway, my go-to Net-A-Porter is yet to go on sale in the UK and Europe?). It’s a time for green-lighting stuff that’s been on your wishlist for a while - not for browsing or buying things you’ve never needed or laid eyes on before. As darling
put it perfectly in her newsletter this week, everything is on sale right now. Just don’t forget to enjoy your weekend.Love, L x
