009. June Shopping Guide: Wedding Guest Dresses
Find the perfect match for your personal style.
Two weeks ago, I published a guide to what you can and can’t wear as a wedding guest, and you requested that I follow up with a shopping guide. You can browse the selection of dresses below safe in the knowledge that I have avoided the usual suspects (sparkle, red, black, short hems, dramatic cut outs, etc).
I have only included dresses made of natural fabrics like silk, cotton, and linen. A couple are made of sustainable and breathable fabrics like Tencel. Beyond the sustainable aspect, it’s also about understanding what you are paying for and getting value for your hard-earned bucks. A meter of polyester costs brands around $3 (much less at scale), whilst one meter of silk costs them upwards of $40. I have filtered out the $800 100% polyester dresses, of which there were many. For my fellow sweaty girlies, synthetics and sweltering heat is a combo I will avoid at all costs.
Like every shopping guide I publish, this one is divided into sections for different personal styles (e.g. dresses to shop if you describe your style as minimalist). My intention in doing so is to help you not only shop but also develop an eye for pieces that feel ‘you’ rather than pieces that are trending. Discovering your personal style is the secret to looking timeless.
Lastly, I have included ‘$’ symbols to help you find the right dress for your budget. $ represents items priced under $250, foritemspricedbetween$250and$500,$ for items priced between $500 and $750, and $$$+ for prices above $750. I always recommend checking your go-to secondhand site before making a purchase, as you might be able to save a significant amount. You can find my top tips for shopping secondhand in this newsletter.
