053. Do You Know How To Put Together Day-To-Night Outfits?
For The Days That Leave No Time For Costume Changes
‘Will I be overdressed?’ ‘Would this look too casual?’. These are questions I asked myself almost every time I got dressed in my twenties. My friends and I would ask each other ‘What’s the vibe of the place?’. It would determine the height of the heel and the length of the skirt. In this next phase of life, these questions don’t come up as much and the circumstances that call for dressing up have changed. I sometimes wear my most polished outfit of the day first thing if I have a breakfast meeting. Occasionally, I’ll even change into something more casual to go out for dinner if I’m joining my friends at the pub. However, often what I wear during the day - on days I don’t work from home - is what I wear to go out in the evening. I no longer have a specific daytime wardrobe and a going-out one, bar a few outliers. When I shop for anything other than loungewear, day-to-night potential has become a key criterion as it’s directly linked to how much wear I’ll get out of a piece.
Today’s letter includes a list of twelve things I have learnt about what makes a great day-to-night outfit. It also includes a week’s worth of examples of fully styled day-to-night looks.
I hope you have a beautiful week 💖.
